Henry's Farm Update, 3-9-20

Hi Folks,

Henry here with your weekly farm update.

I know winter isn’t over yet, but it sure feels like spring on these sunny days. The air is different now than it is in the fall; the spring breeze carries a clean, sweet, vegetative smell versus the heavier earthy odor of fall. The changing seasons are great. Dad and I think spring is the best.

Dad took Mom and me along on his adventure yesterday and I took advantage of the opportunity to gaze over the stock like a cattle baron of Texas. We’re dreaming of green grass, and I’d say in another month that wish will be granted. Then the madness of spring grazing, calving season, and everything else sets in. We won’t stop for a breath until…well, probably January. Ugh. I’ll be old by then.

Changing seasons transform our lives on the farm. These annual transformations infuse a sense of awareness, anticipation, strategy, and connectedness that complete the human experience. It’s our highest pleasure to project the natural order of family food production into a world that largely operates without regard to seasonal patterns. When the world seems a little too urgent and way too rigid, our customers find relief in the reality of farm life. We find new world perspectives because of our customers. The relationship is symbiotic. My dad tells me every day that, as farmers, we need to be good stewards, good thinkers, good people, and excellent storytellers.

We’re happy that you read along with us.

See you at the farm!
